The new Apple iPod Touch

iPod Touch 2010

The new 2010 iPod Touch is even thinner than before

After Apple’s recent update to their Mac computer line, I started to hate them but now Steve has sort of turned my frown into a smile. On the 1st of September Apple updated the iPod Touch, iPod Nano, Apple TV and more.

But I’m really happy about the iPod Touch.  It’s much better than the old iPod touch and can compete against the iPhone as an entertainment device. I think this is great news, especially for those who don’t want to pay the premium price for the iPhone but still want to enjoy most of it’s features.

Here are the main specifications of the new iPod Touch:

  • Same Retina display as the iPhone 4 which provides an insanely crisp picture which is a 336ppi resolution which is 960 x 640 pixels.
  • Can record 720pHD footage and take photos with it’s rear camera.
  • It has the Facetime feature built in so you can use it to talk to your friends and family who also own an iPod touch or an iPhone 4.
  • It has the same A4 chip as the iPhone 4 and the iPad so you can play games at super speeds.
  • It has a 3-axis gyroscope so it has more precision than just a accelerometer.
  • Comes standard with IOS 4.1.
  • Built-in microphone and speaker.

So what do you think? The new iPod touch is essentially an iPhone 4 without the calling features and a few other features. It’s also thinner than the old iPod touch. I was hoping it would have a different design a bit like the iPhone 4 but it didn’t but either way, it’s still sexay!

Deactivate a WordPress plugin without the admin panel

Today I ran into a little spot of bother, I installed some dodgy plugin onto my WordPress install which gave me the famous ‘White Screen of Death’ which basically is a massive error page without even a error message to help diagnose, it which can be scary at times.

My administration panel turned all white, I had no access to menus/buttons and no freaking way to turn that god damned plugin of. My solution? Turn it of via the database. (I know there are guides out there already but I thought of this all by myself, I’m so proud).

Carry on reading for the tutorial.

Jokes for all geeks!

I got super bored so I decided to compile a list of jokes for geeks and nerds! Enjoy!

  • There are 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don’t
  • If at first you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0
  • I’m not anti-social; I’m just not user friendly
  • My software never has bugs. It just develops random features
  • Roses are #FF0000 , Violets are #0000FF , All my base belongs to you
  • In a world without fences and walls, who needs Gates and Windows?
  • Hand over the calculator, friends don’t let friends derive drunk
  • I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code
  • Enter any 11-digit prime number to continue…
  • The box said ‘Requires Windows 95 or better’. So I installed LINUX
  • A penny saved is 1.39 cents earned, if you consider income tax
  • Unix, DOS and Windows…the good, the bad and the ugly
  • A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in human history – with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila
  • The code that is the hardest to debug is the code that you know cannot possibly be wrong

More after the break!

How a fly ruined my life

Okay, so a fly didn’t ruin my life but I’m a geek, I’m bound to exaggerate a little.

First of all, who knew that flies looked so disgusting close up? Some of you nerds might know because you’ve Googled it or something but who Googles flies? I google Bill Gates, Anacondas and Angelina Jolie.

Anyway, this is what happened. I was playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on my Playstation 3 earlier (which by the way I’m not very good at). I was playing a game of Domination on Highrise which is one of my favourite maps. What happened was I was at 24 kills, 0 deaths when a fly came in front of my eyes and started to fly around my nose for some reason, this obviously distracted me. I died and was 1 kill away from a Nuke which I’ve never managed to get before. I even had my red dot sight from my ACR pointed directly at some camping sniper but then he got me.

Who would have known that flies could be so destructive? Normally when I see a fly I’m like ‘get the f*****g spatula’ but I decided to let it live, hopefully it won’t pee me of again.

So you’ve managed to make it to the bottom of this rather disturbing post, congratulations! You are now officially just as nerdy as me!

Add a forum to your website by copying & pasting 1 line of code

Tal.ki Logo

Tal.ki makes it easy to add a interactive forum to your website

I was amazed when I stumbled upon this neat little web application today called Tal.ki. Ever wanted to add a forum to your website/blog but all the current forum solutions out there including but not limited to vBulletin, I.P Board, PHPBB are too ‘heavy’ and are hard to install/implement? Tal.ki has the solution and I always wondered if anything like this would ever be made because there have been multiple occasions where clients have wanted a light forum but I have been unable to provide it.

The remarkable thing about Tal.ki is that to install it, all you have to do is copy and paste one line of code which even the most amateur of webmaster can do and that’s it! You don’t even need to sign up on their website to get the code.

Don’t worry about Tal.ki not matching your website, you can easily customise it to suit your needs, it also has the ability to detect CSS and adapt itself to that style. It also has support for emoticons, multimedia support such as images, video and also comes with the ability to make sub-forums. Don’t worry about being penalised by Google or any other search engine because of adding this forum, the creators thought of this and search engine optimised it so you don’t have to.

Here’s the kick-ass thing about this though, say if you have a Facebook Fan page and you’d like to easily connect your fans with your website. You can simply embed the forum into your fan page and into your website both users from your website and fan page can talk on one forum but be on two different websites.

Users can also easily log in using their Facebook, Twitter, Google and other accounts so there’s no need for registration.

Their websites also has some available plugins to download for CMS platforms such as Joomla and WordPress to make it easier, these plugins also give you access to more features such as the single sign-on.

Check this golden part of the Internet out now!

Why multi-paged blogposts FAIL

<rant>So I was reading this really interesting article a few days ago, well not so much as reading but looking at pictures at laughing. It was a post containing around 100 images which were funny and I wanted to look at them all since the first 5-6 made me laugh.

Here’s why I simply clicked the red ‘x’ and closed the tab, the post was multi-paged and each time I wanted to look at the next picture I had to reload the entire website and wait so long, even though it’s only a couple of seconds waiting time, that’s still a long time waiting since there’s 100 images!

Don’t get me wrong, the content of that website was brilliant and I would have loved to see all the images but that was just annoying, he should have put the images under one another so I could load everything at once and see them all.

The title of this article isn’t exactly accurate since not all multi-paged blogposts fail, when you have loads of text it’s good to put them on multi-pages so it splits the information up, therefore making it easier to read and understand however it’s only good if it’s a couple of pages, 3 at max. Anything much higher than that gets annoying, try it yourself.

What I’m saying is, multi-paged blogposts aren’t bad but try and avoid them if possible and maybe keep some of your readers while avoiding it. Cool right?</rant>

My Twitter page is on the second page of Google for ‘Artful Dodger’

To most of you, the words ‘Artful Dodger’ will probably mean one of two things, the massive UK R&B and UK Garage band or the Artful Dodger from the well known film ‘Oliver Twist’.

I’ve adapted this nickname for over 4 years now as my online alias since I refuse to use my real name on the Internet for obvious reasons (some of you may think this is rather stupid but I couldn’t care less about what you think, even if I tried).

Today I did a quick search for the term ‘Artful Dodger’ on Google and it turns out that my Twitter account has made it to the second page of Google, OK so it’s only Google.co.uk but hey, that’s still pretty awesome to me. I know I didn’t really do anything to get my Twitter up there since it’s not like I can really SEO my Twitter page but it wasn’t there before so something must have happened.

Maybe one day I can try and get this actual website up there. What do you think? Pretty awesome huh?

Apple Decides to Upgrade Macs, FFS

iMac

Apple could be upgrading the iMacs aswell as the Mac Pros

DAMN! I knew this was bound to happen some day but I didn’t think it would happen so soon!

Gizmodo is reporting that Apple might be upgrading the iMac and the Mac Pro, the iMac is getting a speed boost and the Mac Pro is just getting a ‘refresh’.

There’s also a new Apple Cinema Display coming out and something called a multi-touch device called a trackpad? Meh! IDK!

Motherboard Table – FTW?

Circuit Board Table

Coffee table made entirely from recycled motherboards

WTF is this crazy shit? It’s a table made from recycled computer parts which is pretty cool if you ask me.

Well you’ve got to love it, it has LEDs running down the side to light this beauty up in the dark so it looks just as sexy no matter when your looking at it. Yeah I said it – sexy.

It’s actually composed of two tables, one which all the parts are carefully mounted on and another one which is on the outside which has wooden borders and glass so you can actually see it all. Genius if you ask me, I wouldn’t mind one of these but then again which nerd would? Hehe.

How to Hack a Million Routers

Wireless Router

Security flaw has been discovered in millions of routers

OK, so I’m not really going to show you how to hack a million routers, I’m not going to show you how to even hack one router, as a matter of fact, I’m never going to show you how to hack anything so don’t get your hopes up, ever.

I just found out that a researcher named Craig Heffner, a researcher and consultant at the security firm Seismic has discovered a flaw in millions of makes and models of routers which includes Lynksys, Belkin, Dell, HP and more. The flaw isn’t a small one though, he said that he can manage to hack into your router using some DNS Rebinding bullshit and using the code so-called the “Jedi Mind Trick”, infiltrate into your private home network and steal private and confidential information and passwords.

The Train that Lays it’s OWN Tracks

Check this out! I was browsing Gizmodo today and I found a train that lays it’s own tracks! Like OMG, this is surely going to lead to thousands of people loosing their jobs, since this god damn machine can lay it’s own damn tracks? How convenient is that?

Apparently, it’s called the P811-S Track Renewal Train and it recently just finished a job in Belgium where it had to install a line to Overpelt.

What’s going to happen in 10 years time? An of-road car that lays it’s own tarmac!? DAMN!

I Just Purchased A SNES & Super Mario World

A legendary game

Super Mario World

Hey guys, so your probably wondering, why on earth would I want a Super Nintendo when there are Xbox 360s and PS3s which can do far more and play games in high defenition.

Well, the answer is simple, Super Mario World was probably the best game I ever played, I’ve played a hell of a lot of games in my time and I’ve owned pretty much every single console including PS1, PS2, PS3 Xbox, Xbox 360 and a few other crappy ones.

It’s something about the game that really excites me, it’s Mario, I don’t know whether I find it fun when he hits his head on bricks or if it’s the catchy song in the background (damn that song is so much fun to listen to) that keeps me hooked. The game as a whole is just so much fun to play and I think everyone, no matter how much of a gamer you are, should play this game at least once in their life, it’s just so brilliant.

The first time I played it was when I was seven or something haha, I couldn’t get of the damn thing I was like, OK, I’ll do one more level then leave but once I finished that level I was like, OK, I’ll do this last, last level then leave, then I was like OK three’s my lucky number for today, let’s do three levels, and I would continue to make excuses for myself to carry on playing.

But for a few days now I’ve just had the urge to play so after about two hours of searching around, it’s no where to be found so I decided to purchase a new one.

Here’s a video of some guy playing Mario for your entertainment ;) .

Time to kick it old school baby!
